Blenheim, New Zealand
In connection with my previous post, my USAC program group took the time to meet with instructors at the Marlborough Research Centre to learn about water allocation and usage in the region in addition to specific agronomy studies regarding how young the landscape and soil horizons are in New Zealand and how that impacts the wine and pastoral industry. In connecting extra research on how environmentally sustainable drip irrigation is in the vineyard and how to maintain the nutrients in the soils, I was able to more fully understand why certain practices and equipment are used in compared to the traditional equipment used in the United States. Also, this visit helped confirm why it is so important to partner with organizations like the Marlborough Research Centre to promote working as a community to solve environmental and agricultural issues plaguing their industry and daily lives.
